On May 11, 2010, USCIS announced that it has redesigned the Permanent Resident Card-commonly known as the “Green Card.” The new state-of-the-art card incorporates several major new security features. The redesign was one of the latest ongoing efforts to prevent and deter immigration fraud. USCIS will now issue the new, secure format which prevents counterfeiting, and tampering, and makes it easier to quickly get accurate information. The new format includes holographic images, laser engraved fingerprints, and high resolution micro-images which will make the card nearly impossible to reproduce.
